Introduction
P-Tert
Butyl Catechol is usually available as a solid cast, crystal, 85% solution
in methanol or water. Special solutions can be prepared upon request.
This catalogue provides specifications and information on handling,
storage and product uses. Additional information is available upon request.

| Solubility |
Readily soluble in Diethyl
Ether, Acetone, Methanol. Moderately soluble in Benzene, Toluene,
Chloroform, and Carbon Tetrachloride |
A second
order transition point often occurs approximately 10 C below the primary
set point. P-TBC is a relatively low melting solid & often turns
to a partial liquid if exposed to high temperatures during the course
of transportation and storage. The liquefied part settles at the bottom
of the container, thus reducing the set point.

P-Tert
Butyl Catechol Crystals (Non Uniform, Crushed Granular lumps)
We offer
a unique form of PTBC in non uniform granular lumps. The advantages
of PTBC in crystalline form as against using PTBC in the solid cast
form are many and are as follows:
"
It is not necessary to scoop out PTBC crystals using special tools as
against PTBC in the cast form.
"
PTBC in the cast form requires heating of the container in order to
ensure smooth removal from the container. This step is eliminated when
using PTBC crystals.
"
PTBC crystals reduce the chance of skin irritation due to exposure.
TBC Non
Uniform granular lumps. The above is a sample drawn randomly from our
production lot. Actual size of the crystals vary. PTBC changes colour
on exposure to air and light. This does not affect the chemical properties
or effectiveness of TBC.

Packaging
Packaging
of TBC depends on the type of grade ordered. We offer the following
standard packaging:
"200 Kgs HM-HDPE (plastic) drums for Emulsion
"200 Kgs MS-Drums (steel) Epoxy lined for Emulsion
"1000 litres IBC for emulsion
"Plastic bags in 25 Kgs fibre drums for non-uniform crystalline
solid.

Product Uses
P-Tert
Butyl Catechol is a polymerisation inhibitor that is widely used in
processing Styrene, Butadiene, and Vinyl Acetate monomers. Further P-Tert
Butyl Catechol is used
"as
a polymerisation inhibitor in the manufacture of polyester resins
"
as a stabiliser of tin catalyst in the manufacture of polyurethane foam
"
as a inhibitor in cross-linked polyester resins.

Product Handling
and Storage
P-Tert Butyl Catechol is quite similar to Phenol in its potential dangers.
Use the following procedures for handling and storing P-Tert Butyl Catechol.
1. Avoid contact with skin and eyes
by wearing well fitted goggles, gloves and face shield.
2. Change and clean clothing regularly,
especially if contaminated by P-Tert Butyl Catechol.
3. In case of skin contact, wash with
large amounts of soap and water for 15 minutes or more.
4. In case of eye contact wash with
water for 15 minutes or more.
5. Provide adequate ventilation.
6. Obtain first aid immediately in
case of contact.
7. Some individuals maybe hypersensitive
to P-Tert Butyl Catechol.This
is displayed by excessive skin irritation on very slight exposure.
Such individuals should not be allowed to come in contact with P-Tert
Butyl Catechol.
P-Tert Butyl Catechol has a shelf
life of several years if stored correctly. P-Tert Butyl Catechol should
be stored in a closed container made of HM-HDPE without exposure to
air or moisture. P-Tert Butyl Catechol is hygroscopic, absorbing moisture
from the air. Further, P-Tert Butyl Catechol changes colour from white
to tan on exposure to air. The colour change is normal and expected.
It does not affect the chemical properties or effectiveness of TBC.
Prolonged contact to P-Tert Butyl Catechol with Nickel and Iron will
cause it to darken. Exposure to Iron or Nickel will affect the chemical
properties of TBC. If TBC comes in contact with an alkali (Caustic Soda)
even in small quantities, TBC will immediately react to form a phenate
and lose its effectiveness. Hence users should be extra careful to ensure
that there is no presence of any caustic soda or similar material in
their storage tanks or pipelines while using TBC.
When using PTBC crystals, please ensure that the once the bag is opened,
it should be stored in an airtight container.
